At Bismillah Babies, we create a welcoming space where mums and children can thrive. Volunteers play a vital role in ensuring our weekly playgroup runs smoothly and in shaping the experiences of families who attend. Their contribution helps foster a positive, faith-centered environment for both children and mamas.

Bismillah Babies is a pocket of blessings and joy inside Rabbaniah Islamic Cultural Centre, where each Friday, a playgroup is held. The welcoming nature of the lovely women leading the sessions is what drew me to continue volunteering, along with the inspirational work they do.

A safe environment has been created to welcome mothers and children from all backgrounds, regardless of faith, and each week there is a new Islamic topic being taught. The sessions are interesting, sensory and extremely engaging- the gentle introductions towards Islam really inspired me, teaching me how to open ideas around religion to children.

The playgroup has also been brilliant work experience for me, as I am an undergraduate student and would love to be a teacher inshaAllah. I have learnt how to make sessions engaging through sensory play and have definitely developed my communication skills as there are many children with a wide array of languages being spoken- interacting with children where language is sometimes a barrier has been very helpful for developing non verbal communication skills.

Volunteering has always been a passion of mine and working with such a brilliant team who are constantly supportive of my university work and other commitments has made me really love Bismillah Babies and I urge anyone who is able to, to volunteer with them one day too inshaAllah.

What is truly so magnetic about this environment is the sense of sisterhood between women in varying walks of life and their love for الله through the effort they put in raising their children! may الله make their children the noor of their eyes آمين! Why wouldn’t I want to volunteer? Being surrounded by the sweetest children, laughing and serving tea to the most loving mothers, it is truly a space where I feel happy and filled with warmth.
